Aluminium Ring Safety Notice
We were most disappointed at the recent scaremongering and misinformation put out by other eBay sellers regarding Ellaroo’s recent recall of some of their slings using aluminium rings. Please read the recall notice at http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml08/08215.html for details, and you will see that the rings they are recalling are NOT the recommended rings made for slings but were in fact ones they themselves had manufactured in India. Whilst here in California promoting our slings we contacted Kim from Ellaroo who informed us they had made a BIG mistake by having aluminium rings made in India she also informed us that Ellaroo had voluntarily recalled the slings and were replacing ALL the rings on the recalled slings with ALUMINIUM RINGS from SLINGRINGS.com (the same ones used by Freedom Slings) SLING RINGS are the company who invented the process for making these rings and who not only meet but surpass all US and UK technical specifications and standards. Proving yet again that by using these rings, Freedom Slings lead the way in safety and quality.
We have long since stopped using the UK made welded steel rings as the weld is known to spring open and we have notified the company who supply them of the problems that can occur. However as they do NOT specifically recommend them for this use, responsibility lies with the sling manufacturer!! Although these rings have been safety tested to a specific weight (50lbs) it is NOT specifically made or tested for baby carriers so please do not be misled into thinking they have. Unfortunately eBay does not check any claims made in listings by those who sell on their website thereby leaving those claims to be checked by potential buyers (If sellers say their rings have been tested our advise would be to ask to see a copy of test certificate from UK organisation claimed to have done the testing). Why do sellers use these inferior rings? In my opinion, profit before safety. They cost so much less. For instance the welded steel ring cost approx. 20 pence a pair whereas the imported, specially manufactured, rings cost around £4.00 a pair with postage, taxes and import duties added. I would recommend that you always check out claims that are being made by asking for details of the ring manufacturer and check with them the suitability of their product for use on baby carriers and also to confirm details of the testing. For further information on the rings we use please see www.slingrings.com where you will be able to read about the process and any thing you need to know about the rings. If you also checkout the suppliers you will see that we are listed alongside most of the world’s leading sling manufacturers.
